With her tiny frame, she looks more like a 4-month-old German Shepherd than an adolescent, but this little pocket rocket is actually estimated to be around 7–8 months old.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEmber came into the RSPCA alongside her siblings; we were told both mum and dad were German Shepherds and the only dogs on the property. Sadly, all of the puppies are significantly undersized after experiencing poor nutrition from a young age and regularly missing meals. Ember is the smallest of the litter and currently weighs just 11kg.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOver the past few weeks, Ember has been thriving in foster care. We've submitted a DNA test just to be sure, but those results are still a few weeks away. Rather than keeping this special girl waiting, we want her to begin building a bond with her forever family and continue gaining positive experiences while she's still young.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eUnfortunately, Ember missed out on the critical socialisation and exposure puppies need. Having never ventured beyond her yard, she arrived in care timid, overwhelmed, and unsure of the world around her. Since then, she's been making wonderful progress. Ember loves being part of the hustle and bustle of family life and enjoys quietly observing everything that's going on. While she's still cautious about physical affection, she's learning that people can be trusted. \u003cbr\u003eWhen she feels comfortable and chooses to approach, she loves a gentle chest scratch. If she's feeling unsure, she'll simply keep her distance. Ember has also been growing in confidence around children and visitors, and we've found that asking people to ignore her initially helps her settle and build trust at her own pace.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEmber is incredibly clever and picks up new routines in no time, she's doing wonderfully with her toilet and crate training and has already learned the expectations and rhythm of her foster home. Ember would do well attending group obedience classes, where she can continue developing her skills while building confidence around new people and environments.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eLike any young Shepherd entering her teenage months, Ember has a cheeky side. If left to entertain herself, she'll happily find her own fun! Chewing, digging, and a little bit of mischief all come with the territory, so she'll need appropriate outlets including plenty of mental enrichment, and supervision as she continues to mature.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEmber absolutely adores other dogs and often looks to them for confidence in unfamiliar situations. Don't let her tiny size fool you, though, this pint-sized girl has a big personality; she's confident with other dogs, loves a good wrestle, and isn't afraid to claim a prized toy or comfy bed as her own. She would love a confident, well-balanced older doggy brother who won't be fazed by her bossy boots attitude but who is also up for a good cuddle session too.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDespite her size, Ember is an active girl, she's currently living on a farm where she spends her days zooming around the property, splashing through puddles, and making the most of every adventure, she's a total water baby! Ember isn't suited to apartment living or a quiet, sedentary lifestyle, she's looking for an active home where she'll be included in everyday family life, weekend adventures, and everything in between.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEmber may be small, but her heart is enormous.
