Zylo

Zylo is a big, beautiful long stock coat German Shepherd, who is looking for a new family to love. Zylo is large, and thinks he is in charge, at 5.5 years old, he doesn’t have the best manners and is in desperate need of some boundaries and training.

Zylo is a friendly giant, he is currently an outside dog, he starts out a little cautious and then gets super excited to say hello. Zylo lacks impulse control and will jump up onto people, due to his size, this means he his at head height and takes a little time to settle down, if he becomes highly aroused, the boisterous jumping starts again.

Zylo will need a family with children over the age of 8, he would even knock small adults over, his new family need to have recent experience with large, boisterous dogs that have no manners. Once Zylo calms down, he is very affectionate and loves a pat and cuddle, he is happy hanging out with his humans and is very friendly to visitors.

Zylo hasn’t had much training; he knows his basic commands but lacks focus and impulse control. Zylo doesn’t have any manners at all and will need plenty of boundaries and consistent feedback in his new home about what behaviours are and aren’t acceptable. Zylo will need a strong, confident handler that has experience training head-strong large dogs, he responds well to treats and works/ learns best when he is having fun and is engaged with his handler.

Zylo is currently not getting the exercise or stimulation he needs, currently out on a walk he pulls hard towards smells or anything that captures his attention, he will need to work on his leash manners and go back to basics. We highly recommend Zylo’s new owner works with a trainer so that they can learn together with Zylo how to get the best out of him.

Zylo will need daily exercise, but more importantly he will need mental stimulation. Zylo is fine being left on his own but has been known to do some landscaping when he is bored and has dug some pretty impressive holes. Zylo would love to be provided with enrichment including treat puzzles, interactive toys, training sessions and other activities that will get his mind working.

Zylo doesn’t have a lot of experience with other dogs; he can become overstimulated when up close and doesn’t have the best of manners or doggy social skills. Zylo will need to work on his greeting skills with other dogs and practice being calm and socially appropriate towards them. Zylo may be able to be integrated into a home with another large dog; however, separation, boundaries and slow introductions would be necessary; he is likely to hassle another dog to begin with, his large size means that extra precautions need to be considered to keep everyone safe.
Zylo would be fine as the only dog in his new home, he has not been tested with cats or other small pets.

Zylo really isn’t getting the attention, training or consistency he needs, right now he presents as a big, boisterous dog that is so excited anytime someone interacts with him. With structure, consistent rules, training and being integrated into family life, we are sure this big cuddly bear will absolutely thrive and settle into a happy more relaxed life.
