Bear
Introducing beautiful 4-year-old Bear, his owner couldn’t afford to look after him any longer, so Bear was left confused and alone in the pound, wondering what he ever did to deserve this… We busted Bear out of the pound, he has been in foster care the last few weeks and is now ready for a second chance at forever!
Bear is a sweet boy that enjoys meeting new people, he is a great guard dog that will alert you when visitors arrive, but is soon greeting them with a wagging tail, giving a sniff all over to say hello. Bear quickly shows off his favourite toy, hoping that humans will play a game of fetch!
Bear doesn’t jump up and is at that perfect age where he is no longer showing those typical puppy behaviours, he can snatch out of excitement with his favourite deflated basketball, so will need to be supervised around children at all times. Bear would suit a family with children over 5 that have experience with large breed dogs, however, he will need to be taught boundaries and rules, especially during playtime.
Bear is motivated by both food and toys, he loves his basketball that he was allowed to bring home with him from the pound and will bring it back to your feet to throw it again… he can be a little eager and will take it back, running off with it cheekily. This boy loves to play and is always ready for a game of fetch, he is learning to ‘turn off’ and just relax, this will need to be ongoing in his new home.
Bear is a little scattered when walking on lead, he likes to sniff everything and zigzag, however he doesn’t pull too much when no distractions are around. Bear gets very over-aroused when he sees another dog and will pull hard towards them, wanting to say hello. Bear responds well to correction and recovers well with increased distance. Bear will require ongoing work on his leash skills in his new home, his goal is to keep calm and walk past other dogs without getting over-excited.
Bear is inexperienced with other dogs; he gets over-excited when they are close by and will pull and cry trying to reach them. Up close, Bear doesn’t know what to do, he is extremely rude in his interactions and is overbearing (excuse the pun). Bear is not aggressive, even when corrected by other dogs, he doesn’t retaliate… but he doesn’t always get the message either and is a repeat offender.
Bear has a lot of potential, he has shown he can walk with other dogs, but he is in desperate need of manners and boundaries, both which will come with practise and consistent feedback. Bear is best suited as the only dog in his new home for the time being, working on his social skills overtime with his humans.
Bear has not been tested with cats or other small animals.
Bear enjoys being brushed and likes a cuddle, he is quite an independent boy that is happy to do his own thing and will amuse himself. Bear would be happiest with daily exercise, playtime with his humans and a full belly, he is a no fuss kind of guy whose only request is that he can bring his ball with him to his new home.
