6-year-old Bear was found as a stray with another dog, his family picked up the other dog, but left Bear alone in the pound. Poor Bear is now very confused about what he did to deserve this, where his family and his friend have gone… he is still in the pound waiting for someone to save him.

Bear is a friendly boy that enjoys meeting new people, he can be a little distracted at first (especially in the pound) but then will happily greet anyone, especially if they have treats on offer. Bear is a gentle boy who occasionally jumps up for attention / out of frustration but is otherwise well mannered. Bear is looking for a home where everyone is over the age of 5 years old.

Bear is a clever boy and knows his basic commands and a few tricks too, he loves to give high fives and will do anything for a treat! Bear’s leash manners need some work, he pulls hard at the start of a walk, wanting to sniff everything he can and move forward quickly. Bear’s new family will need to work on this in his new home, we highly recommend working with a trainer to get the best out of Bear, he is food motivated and eager to learn.

Bear has previously been an indoor dog, but has spent the last few years locked outside, he is a typical German Shadow that just wants to be with his people and would love to be welcomed inside as part of the family.

Bear is looking for an active home that will give him plenty of physical and mental stimulation, daily walks and training sessions accompanied with enrichment toys and games will ensure Bear is kept happy and healthy, and most importantly out of mischief.

Bear has always lived with at least one other dog; he has been a little conflicted meeting other dogs in the pound and will bark and react to them but is able to be distracted. Bear was eventually able to calm down and say hello to our very tolerant assessment dog before going on a walk together, however he lacked doggy manners and was trying to mount our dog and would bark in his face. It was clear Bear didn’t know what to do and was overwhelmed, he needs lots of space and time to feel comfortable.

We feel that Bear could live with another large breed dog, preferably female, if given a gradual introduction; his new family would need to have the ability to completely separate and work on bringing the dogs together over a prolonged time period. Bear would also be ok living as the only dog if he has someone home often.

Bear has not been tested with cats or other small animals.

Bear has been left behind, forgotten about, he has lost everything he has ever known and loved. We are determined to give Bear the life he is dreaming of, with people who want him, will love him and never leave him behind.
