Ghost
Handsome Ghost is 2.5 years old and found himself homeless in the pound last year due to no fault of his own. Just before Christmas, we busted him out and placed him into a loving foster home where he has spent the last 2 months, he is now ready to find his forever family.
Ghost is an absolute cuddle bug; he just loves his humans and wants to be as close to you as he possibly can. Ghost loves cuddling on the bed with his people, personal space is not something he knows the meaning of, he is an oversized lap dog! Whilst Ghost loves affection, it is on his terms, he can be a little nervous when he is bathed and patted close to his back end and will need someone that respects his space and signals of when to slow down. Ghost is best suited to a home where everyone is over the age of 12 years old.
Ghost just loves his toys and will often be found playing with a squeaky ball in his mouth. Ghost is still a puppy at heart and has taken to stealing shoes and taking them outside, now chewing… just collecting! Ghost will need plenty of enrichment and mental stimulation in his new home, food puzzles, games that will get his mind working, and training sessions will all help to keep Ghost amused and out of mischief.
Ghost is very clever and learns things very quickly, he knows his basic commands and has even picked up a few extra manners in foster care. Ghost can be motivated by food, however, toys will always be his preference. Ghost would benefit from ongoing training and socialization, he needs to work on his commands and manners when under distraction and in new environments. Ideally, Ghost’s new owner will have German Shepherd experience and will need to be committed to setting boundaries and rules to ensure Ghost knows what is expected of him.
Ghost is conflicted with other dogs; he is extremely unsure and will growl with his hackles up to voice his concern. Ghost has successfully been introduced to female dogs when given the time to calm down and feel safe, he is still unsure how to properly interact with them and is a little on edge but manageable. Ghost is barrier reactive and has a heightened response when behind a fence or window. We know Ghost can interact with others when given time and space, but he needs to build up his confidence and change the way he feels around other dogs.
Ghost needs to work up to go back to basics, his humans will need to work on creating a positive association from a distance and slowly working up to Ghost feeling ok when walking past other dogs, we highly recommend Ghost works with a trainer so that he and his human can learn together how to do this. For now, Ghost needs to be the only pet in his new home, he is not suited to living with cats, small pets or livestock.
Ghost is as loyal as they come, you will not find a happier or more excited dog when you come home each day, he will always be ready for love, cuddles and a game of fetch. Ghost has been integrated inside during his time in foster care and is now a well-behaved indoor dog that just wants to follow you around everywhere. Ghost is happiest with his people by his side and a squeaky toy in his mouth.
