Jasper
JOYFUL JASPER
Jasper is a stunning 4-year-old German Shepherd that was found as a stray, his owners didn’t want him any longer, so they let him out, agreeing to surrender him to the pound straight away. Poor Jasper needs love and stability, he is a wonderful dog but has been let down by humans who got a pretty dog and then didn’t put in the effort and time required.
Jasper is a big cuddle bug; this boy has never met a human he doesn’t like and is always leaning in for more pats and attention. Jasper is a typical German Shadow and just wants to be wherever his humans are, he would enjoy having someone home more often than not in his new home.
Jasper is a big puppy in an adult body, it’s clear he hasn’t been given a lot of boundaries in his previous home, resulting in a lack of impulse control and a typical teenage attitude even at 4 years old. When Jasper is excited, he gets the Zoomies and will jump up, whilst he wouldn’t intentionally hurt young children, he will knock them flying, not realising his own size. Jasper is best suited to a home where everyone is over the age of 8 and is dog savvy.
Jasper loves to play and is quite clever when his listening ears are turned on, he enjoys learning new things and just wants to have fun and please his humans. Jasper will need ongoing training with his new family, he needs to work on his focus, impulse control, and general engagement with his handler. We highly recommend Jasper works with a trainer either 1on1 or in a group setting; he has made great progress in his foster home, but absolutely needs more work, especially when out in public.
Jasper is very strong on lead, when he sees something he wants, he will lunge his hardest to get to it and pull like a steam train. Jasper will need someone physically capable of walking and training him, he is an active dog that at times can be boisterous, he is looking for an active home.
Jasper has shown that he can settle down inside and when it is time to be calm, he is more than happy to oblige and will snooze on his bed or at your feet. Whilst Jasper is a playful boy that just wants to have fun, his favourite thing to do is snuggle!
Jasper is a little conflicted with other dogs, whilst he has been able to say hello to some, others he gets quite defensive with and will lash out. Jasper has tested better with large breed female dogs, he has been hit and miss with males, the ones he has been ok with have been extremely friendly and submissive. Jasper’s new humans need to ensure that all interactions with other dogs are controlled and monitored, he can be very hit and miss and will need to keep his distance at times.
Jasper do well as the only dog in his new home, he may also be able to live with a large breed female dog that is friendly, initial separation may be needed whilst the dogs adjust to living together. Jasper enjoys chasing rabbits and seems to be very focused on small animals, he wouldn’t be suited to living with small dogs, cats or other small pets.
This big goofy, snuggly boy has got so much love to give someone, he needs a family who are prepared to give him the training and boundaries he desperately needs, he has so much potential to be an incredible companion and will be well and truly worth all the time and effort.
