Marley
Marley is still in the pound and is searching for a foster or foster to adopt home.
Poor Marley has had a rough start; she was seized from a property along with multiple other animals and has been bred numerous times. Marley was very thin when she came into RSPCA care and has been recovering and putting on weight. Marley finds the shelter environment extremely stressful and is looking for a way out as soon as possible.
Marley is a clever girl that learns quickly, she enjoys engaging for treats and praise and will do well with further training to help develop the bond between dog and handler, and to teach Marley the rules and boundaries within her new home.
Marley is friendly and likes meeting new people, she can get a little overwhelmed with too much handling but generally warms up and is affectionate once she feels safe. Marley can be a little snatchy with treats and hasn’t had any exposure to children, she is looking for a home with dog savvy kids over the age of 8.
Marley will be classed as a medical adoption; he has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and will be provided with ongoing support from GSRV for the rest of her life. This will be discussed with her new humans.
Marley is very conflicted with other dogs, we know she has lived with other dogs previously, however, has shown less tolerance for meeting new dogs in the shelter environment. Marley can be reactive at first, barking and lunging out of frustration. When given time to calm down and with a slow, controlled introduction, Marley was able to walk calmly with another dog and even have a few sniffs, however, did become overwhelmed.
For now, Marley needs to be the only dog in her new home, once she decompresses from the shelter environment, she may be more accepting of other dogs around her and can work towards the goal of calmly meeting others out and about.
Marley has previously lived with cats on the property she was seized from, however the extent of their interactions is unknown, she has not been tested with small animals or livestock.
