Stormy

A STORMY IS COMING!

Meet Stormy, a gorgeous 6-month-old pocket rocket who is looking for her forever home.
Stormy ended up in the shelter when she was very young and was adopted to a family who had little experience, they’ve returned her to the shelter, who have now asked for our help to find the perfect and final home for this sweet girl.

Stormy is a typical shepherd pup, enthusiastic and ready for fun at a moment’s notice, she loves meeting new people and making friends. Stormy is young and is still learning impulse control, she jumps up when excited and can snatch treats, she needs to be given clear boundaries and feedback about what behaviours are acceptable. For this reason, Stormy would be best placed in a home where everyone is over the age of 8 and who have experience living with large breed dogs.

Stormy is clever and loves working for treats, she responds well to positive reinforcement training and wants to please her people. Stormy has been working on her basic commands and her leash skills and manners; however, she is still learning and will need ongoing training. Group obedience classes will allow her to learn and focus under high distraction and socialise in a safe environment.

Stormy will need plenty of stimulation through both physical exercise and mental enrichment, she is entering her teenage phase and when bored, will make her own fun. Enrichment puzzles, training, games and confidence building activities such as agility will all help Stormy to be a fulfilled and happy dog.

Stormy is living with hip dysplasia, right now it is classed as mild and currently requires no intervention, she is not lame and shows no signs of this condition in her day-to-day life. It is a case of ‘wait and see’ how Stormy grows, being so young, her joints and bones are still developing, and whilst she is happy and not in any pain right now, that may change down the track.

We have made the decision to have Stormy join our ‘Medical Adoption’ program; this means that if she ever needs surgery for her hips, GSRV will financially support her family with this, as well as with the ongoing management of her condition. This will be discussed further with her new family.

Stormy gets along well with other dogs, she would benefit from living with an older large breed male who can show her the ropes and teach her, she would also be fine living as the only dog in her new home. Stormy has not been tested with cats or other small pets.

Stormy is a young pup that has been let down by humans, in her short life, she has been in multiple homes and the shelter due to no fault of her own, we are determined to ensure her next move is her last so we can provide this little girl with the consistency and stability she needs to thrive. Pups are a lot of work, but the time and work you put into them, is well worth it in the long run.
