Harvey
HARVEY IS HOPING FOR HIS PERFECT RETIREMENT HOME!
Harvey is a gorgeous almost 7-year-old long stock coat German Shepherd who is looking for his perfect retirement home. Harvey found himself in a local shelter after his owner became unwell, he was left alone, outside for a very long time.
Harvey has been living his best life in foster care and has quickly made up for all those months in the shelter; he has become accustomed to a certain lifestyle and will only go to the best of homes that can continue to spoil him the way he deserves. Harvey is an indoor dog, he is a bit of a princess that loves being tucked into his bed with his toys perfectly lined up, he enjoys sleeping in, and afternoon naps, watching him walk into the room with the ultimate bed hair melts even the coldest of hearts.
Harvey is a chilled-out boy that is happy to go with the flow, he is content with a short walk each day and loves strolling down to the local café where he orders his puppacino and if he has been an extra good boy, treats himself to some scrambled eggs. Dog and human treats are also on the cards; he is so tall that he often helps himself to whatever he can reach.
Harvey loves people and is a typical German Shadow, he is a cuddly boy that loves affection and attention from everyone he meets. Harvey is an older gentleman that isn’t wanting a busy, chaotic home, he would prefer a slower, quieter lifestyle where naps are the priority. A home where all children are 5+ would be ideal for Harvey, he would be well suited to a retired person.
Harvey is unsure of other dogs, he can be a little awkward and confused about how to interact due to a lack of previous socialisation, he is mostly happy to walk past another dog in the street without engaging, however sometimes a suspicious stare makes him uncomfortable, or a dog gets too close and he will bark. Harvey would be happiest as the only dog in his new home; he also hasn’t been tested with cats or livestock; he enjoys chasing rabbits for about 2 minutes before he becomes too tired and gives up.
When Harvey arrived at the shelter, he was heavily matted, suffering from a severe ear infection and it was clear he had never been groomed. Harvey’s foster carer has been working on exposing him to brushing and bathing; however, this is a work in progress and something he will need to continue working on in his new home. When Harvey is stressed or uncomfortable with handling, he can become mouthy, he does well having a soft toy to hold onto and also wears a muzzle at the vet.
Harvey has some sensitivity around his head and is living with arthritis, this will need to be managed in his new home with supplements and pain relief such as injections.
This gorgeous boy is an easy-going companion that has loved being spoiled and doted on in foster care. Harvey is looking for a special someone to give him the unconditional love he deserves as he enters his golden years. Adopting an older dog may mean that you have less time together, but they bring calm, wisdom and seem to bond even stronger, knowing how lucky they are after everything they’ve been through.
