Kumo

Stunning big boy Kumo is 5 years old and is a long stock coat German Shepherd. Kumo had a tough start, living an isolated life and used for backyard breeding, he spent months in the shelter before coming into our care, Kumo is now ready for his next chapter, forever.

Kumo is a friendly big bear who just loves attention, he doesn’t quite understand his size and will enthusiastically lean in for pats, nearly taking your knees out in the process. Kumo can become overwhelmed with a lot of handling and prefers to interact on his terms, he is easily won over with treats and toys. Despite his age, Kumo can display some puppy-like behaviours and be very demanding (and a bit of a brat) when he wants to interact, he is best suited to a home where everyone is over the age of 12.

Kumo loves to play and is very cheeky; fetch, tug, find it games are all fun, he is up for any task where he gets to engage with his humans. Kumo is clever, and he learns quickly, but is also a stubborn boy who likes to get his way and will push boundaries and rules. Kumo will thrive with a confident handler that can be the leader, showing Kumo exactly what is expected of him and giving him clear feedback.

Kumo is treat and toy motivated, he has been learning his basic commands and enjoys learning new things but needs to keep practising his manners and focus. Kumo’s new human needs to be prepared to put the time and effort into Kumo, he has so much potential and will excel in the right hands.

Kumo hasn’t had much exposure to other dogs, when he sees them at a distance he will freeze and watch them, up close he will bark out of frustration, not quite knowing if he wants to interact or how he is feeling. Kumo will need to be the only dog in his new home, his new family need to be committed to working on Kumo’s engagement when he sees another dog, keeping him calm and neutral.

Kumo hasn’t been exposed to cats or other small pets, he loves chasing birds – he would need to be kept separate from any other animals in his new home.

Kumo will need an active home that will include him on adventures and outings, he is happy with a walk or a play/ training session and then will spend the day snoozing in the sun. Kumo thinks enrichment toys are the best and loves a challenge working out how to get food out of puzzles and treat dispensers. Kumo is easy to keep happy, he just requires consistent effort and attention, you will then have a best friend for life!
