Nova
Nova is still in the pound and is searching for a foster or foster to adopt home.
Nova is 2 years old and hasn’t had the best start to life, she was seized by the RSPCA due to being extremely underweight and neglected. Nova has been putting on weight in the shelter environment; however, she is extremely stressed and needs out ASAP.
Nova is a beautiful girl that is desperate to love and be loved, she can be a little unsure of handling at times and can get a little overstimulated if humans aren’t reading her body language that she needs a break. Nova is working up to pats and cuddles on her terms, when she is comfortable, she is very affectionate.
Nova is best suited to a home where everyone is over the age of 12, she will lightly mouth and jump up when she is overwhelmed and would do better in a quieter home where everything is predictable and able to be experienced at her own pace.
Before being rescued, Nova had spent her life isolated in the backyard, with nothing to do but chase bugs, she has shown some OCD tendencies with this and will pace when she is anxious. Nova has recently been put on medication for this behaviour and is doing much better – we will discuss this further with her potential foster carer or forever family.
Nova hasn’t had much training; however she is extremely clever and learns quickly, she will need further training in her new home and would love to engage with her humans to keep her mind working and out of mischief. Nova’s leash manners still need work; she pulls hard on lead.
Nova loves enrichment toys and finds them very entertaining, the confidence she gets when she problem solves a puzzle or finds a hidden treat in the yard helps to keep her motivated and happy. Kongs, licky mats, treat puzzles and other enrichment games will all help to keep Nova amused.
Nova is conflicted at first with other dogs, she becomes very excited to meet them and will sometimes let out a bark out of frustration wanting to say hello. It is clear that Nova hasn’t had a lot of interactions with others, however she is friendly and not overbearing when introduced slowly.
Nova may like to live with a large breed male dog in her new home, a relaxed dog who can be a good influence on her and teach Nova to chill would be best suited.
Nova wouldn’t be suitable to a home with cats or other small pets.
