Sook

Meet our beautiful big Sook… no really, that is his name, and it suits him perfectly! Sook is a 3-year-old German Shepherd who had a tough start to life, he was seized on a property with over 25 German Shepherds and has been in our care the past few months. Sook is now ready to find his perfect forever home.

Sook was under socialised and had little trust in humans when he first arrived into our care, he has been gaining confidence and has become a snuggle bug; he is very affectionate with those he trusts and loves to cuddle on the bed and couch. Sook can still be a little unsure when meeting new people, but warms up quickly with treats, sometimes he can be extra confident and will jump up to greet visitors.

Sook has been learning about the big, scary world, and whilst not reactive to people or dogs, he is on high alert and can be a little nervous in busy environments. Sook would not suit living in a busy neighbourhood, he will need to build his confidence up overtime and will need plenty of reassurance from his humans. Loud noises and sudden movements easily scare Sook, he much prefers a quieter, more predictable environment. Sook would be best suited to a home with children over 8 years of age.

Sook has always lived with other dogs and depends on them for support, when humans were unkind and absent, other dogs are all that Sook could rely on, he feels most comfortable when he has a dog friend with him. Sook has been in foster care with other dogs and adores them, he loves to wrestle, cuddle and simply hang out, he has great social skills and will adjust his behaviour to suit the dogs around him.

Sook MUST have another dog in his new home for company; he will want to be with them all the time and will form a strong bond quickly. A young dog that is happy to play with Sook would be best. Sook has not been tested with cats.

Sook is an active boy who will need plenty of exercise and enrichment in his new home, he lives for going on adventures with his doggy friends and would love to be included in daily family life. Sook is at his happiest when he is with his humans, but he is also fine being left at home with his dog friends. Sook will make his own fun if bored, he has personally witnessed 2 beds self-destruct and promises that it wasn’t him.

Sook has been learning his basic commands, this will need continuous work in his new home; Sook is very clever but at times lacks impulse control and is easily distracted. He will need to practise turning his listening ears on all of the time, he loves engaging with his people but can become silly when he is excited.

Sook has grown so much in our care, watching him learn to trust and love has been truly heartwarming. With a doggy brother or sister, and someone who will continue to build his confidence and help him feel safe, Sook will thrive and become the perfect blend of a playful, cheeky and cuddly big sook, the best friend you have been looking for.
