Honey

Beautiful little Honey is 3 years old and was found as a stray, no-one has come forward to claim this little girl, she now finds herself homeless in the pound, uncertain about her future.

Honey is a German Shepherd x – she is mostly shepherd and has a beautiful long, light coat… her ears flop over at the tips giving her the most adorable puppy look that will last forever.

Honey is a friendly girl, who gave us a big bark hello when we met her in the pound, she then jumped up to say hello and instantly wanted pats and affection, leaning into our legs and coming when called, weaving in between your legs. This little cuddle pot gets along with every human she meets, however, can still be a cheeky pup at times, she is looking for a home where everyone is over the age of 5 and who have experience with large breed dogs.

Honey is very stressed in the pound and hasn’t been able to show her true self, she did sit when asked but was too distracted to repeat this command. Honey is going to need someone patient that is willing to put in the time and effort into teaching her manners and setting boundaries. Once out of the stressful pound environment and in a loving home Honey will shine, training sessions with her new human will not only teach her new skills but also forge a strong bond and will build up Honey’s confidence too.

Honey pulls hard on lead; we aren’t sure of her background, but she is very excited and overstimulated by new things and wants to follow her nose to investigate and will pull towards something that intrigues her interest. Honey’s new human will need to put in the work to have Honey engaged and focused, she would eventually do well attending group obedience classes to learn under high distraction and socialise at the same time.

Honey is conflicted with other dogs, at first, she is very intimidated and will give them a big bark with hackles up to scare them off, she is also showing frustration-based barrier reactivity in the pound. When slowly introduced to another dog, giving her the time to feel safe and comfortable, Honey has shown that she can be friendly towards other dogs and does enjoy their company. Honey has had an off-lead playdate and enjoyed sharing her pool and chasing during a game of fetch, she really shows a lot of potential to overcome her reactivity.
Honey is very underconfident and unsure, she will need to build up to meeting other dogs out and about but would highly benefit from living with a large breed male dog to help guide her interactions, who can be a good role model for her.

Honey has not been tested with cats, small animals or livestock.

Honey is a little sweetheart, she is a water-loving, stick-chasing, cheeky girl that has endless potential and will be the most amazing companion in the right hands. Honey is looking for someone that will love her unconditionally, who will put in the time and effort to teaching her all about the outside world and how wonderful life can be.
