Kayo
Kayo is a gorgeous almost 5-year-old German Shepherd whose world has been turned upside down after the passing of his human. No family came forward to claim Kayo, he is now in the shelter very confused and is looking for a forever home where he can start again.
Kayo is a very friendly boy, he loves meeting new people especially if they have treats or a toy handy, he is confident and gentle with all interactions and enjoys pats, leaning in for more. Whilst Kayo doesn’t have much experience with kids, his gentle and calm demeanour suggests he would likely be suited to most family dynamics.
Kayo has clearly been very loved; he has had time and effort put into him and has great foundation skills as a result including recall and basic commands; he is also crate and toilet trained. Kayo engages well with humans and picks things up easily, he loves to learn and is motivated by both food and toys. Kayo would love to continue his training in his new home, learning new skills with his humans is a great way to form a strong bond.
Kayo’s leash skills need work, he is a large, strong dog that will pull hard when he wants to reach something of interest and is also reactive to other dogs, he will need a strong handler that is capable of handling Kayo and engaging him when he is distracted.
Kayo hasn’t had much exposure to dogs and has shown he doesn’t like other dogs being around, he will react to other dogs at a distance and escalates the closer they get. Kayo needs to keep away from other dogs, he will need to work on his reactivity with his new human, the goal being to ignore others and keep calm when he sees them out and about. We highly recommend Kayo works with a trainer to achieve this goal and make walks an enjoyable experience regardless of if another dog walks past.
Kayo has not been tested with cats or other small animals.
This gorgeous big boof head has so much to offer the right family; he is generally very well behaved and has a good foundation of training and skills with a eagerness to please his humans and have fun. Kayo is craving interaction and affection and is ready to be an inside family member who is loved unconditionally.
